Wahaha - Rebranding


Founded in 1987, Wahaha is one of the largest Chinese beverage companies.  Some of its best sellers like AD calcium milk have become a part of the childhood memory of a generation. 










Task
Rebranding Wahaha including the logo and beverage packagings to infuse young energy into this old brand.

LOGO DESIGN STRATEGY

The name of “Wahaha” not only sounds like laughter, but also specifically indicates kids laughing out in Chinese. 

In order to rejuvenate the brand while still emphasizing its Chinese identity, I tried to symbolize the traditional Chinese doll character, and combined the text logo in a way that looks like kids laughing out.

I created two versions: a Chinese one and an English one, which enable the company to reach out a larger market.

The original flavor of AD calcium milk is sour and sweet, but is also very hard to describe with representational food. 

The idea of using abstract graphic elements in the background is aimed at expressing an emotion of happy childhood and a fun experience of drinking AD calcium milk.
